The crew size has been fixed at 20 participants. Candidates will be selected based on their skills, social attitude and resilience. Diversity will be a crucial criterion during the selecion phase.
Many closed experiments and space missions have shown time and again the considerable social challenges tied to prolonged isolation in small groups. Active care will be taken to ensure permanent psychological support, monitoring and conflict management within the team.
Complexities stemming from mixed male/female missions have been largely unadressed in previous isolation studies. The human capsule will strive for a true 50/50 gender balance. Furthermore, the crew will consist of couples as well as unattached participants, in order to better reflect the diversity of society.
